Smartphones with curved displays are still exotic products — there are a few of them around and the models are usually on the expensive side. However, phone manufacturer Bluboo wishes to change that. The company has now introduced its borderless Bluboo Edge smartphone — a device with a curved screen panel on the front, which goes all the way from one side to the other, leaving minimal space for side bezels, a metal frame with glass back, mid-range hardware, and very aggressive price.

It may be available for $129 on pre-sale offer, but the Edge is designed to look like a special jewel. The panel under the glass on the back has a special stereoscopic engraving, which gives its shiny colors depth and enhanced glare effects. The corners of the phone's behind are arched to provide better ergonomics and a look that fits the curved glass on the front.

The Edge's display is a 5.5-inch panel with a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution, protected by a sheet of scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass 4. There is a dual-layer touch panel underneath the glass, which makes sure the phone will detect the faintest tap, and that it can be operated with gloves or even wet hands.

On the inside, a quad-core MediaTek MT6737 hums at 1.3 GHz. The phone has 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, which is expandable via microSD of up to 256 GB. The juicer in the trunk is a 2,600 Li-polymer battery, which Bluboo praises for being thinner and safer than a Li-ion juice box. The phone features a fingerprint scanner, embedded into the physical home button on the front. The operating system is Android 6 Marshmallow with a light re-skin to the UI.

The main camera sports an 8 MP Sony IMX219 sensor and the selfie snapper has a 5 MP one. Bluboo employs some software interpolation magic in order to enhance the cameras' capabilities — the back-facing one can take photos of up to 13 MP, while the front one can take 8 MP selfies.

The phone supports 4G LTE over band 1 (2100 MHz), band 3 (1800 MHz), band 7 (2600 MHz), and band 20 (800 MHz). 3G connectivity is available over band 5 (850 MHz) and band 1 (2100 MHz). It can hold two SIM cards and supports dual standby, though, you will have to sacrifice the microSD slot if you wish to go this route.

The Bluboo Edge is currently up with a pre-sale price of $129 until the 24th of November, after which it will be back to its regular price of $139. You can order one in either Black or Gold finishes. Shipments should begin in early to mid-December. Feeling lucky? Bluboo is holding a giveaway raffle where six lucky winners can get an Edge for free! In order to enter, you need to share a Facebook post and subscribe to Bluboo's newsletter. The giveaway ends on the 24th, together with the pre-sale, so you don't have much time!
