Why in the world would someone go out and purchase an iPhone 4 at full cost just to listen to music, when in fact, they can simply pay less for the phone-less iPod touch? Well, that seems to be the exact way that Samsung is heading with their two latest Samsung Galaxy Player models.
The South Korean based company announced that the Samsung Galaxy Player 4” and 5” models are bound for the US market this year. Having been available in South Korea since the holidays, they’re just now coming to our side of the world.
Essentially your typical Samsung Galaxy S smartphone, the Galaxy Player offers almost every single item found with its smartphone brethren, but it lacks any cellular radios. Samsung is offering both a model with a 4” Super Clear LCD display and 5” WVGA TFT-LCD display. Other features include front & rear cameras, Qik video chat support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microSD card support, and they’ll be powered by Android 2.2 Froyo – with an upgrade down the road to Gingerbread.
Naturally, they’re more focused in being portable music players more than anything else, but it’s nice to see that they’re fully equipped multimedia driven devices.Unfortunately, no word was mentioned about its pricing or exact release date here in the US.
