Nokia N8 steps into daylight, mounting Symbian^3
Nokia has just announced the upcoming availability of its most advanced smartphone yet, the Nokia N8. We have been hearing about it for quite some time now, and there were also leaks pointing at a viral video campaign being in the works for it. Now the sleek handset, which also happens to be the first to run Symbian^3, is finally official and set for a Q3 release, at a price of EUR 370 before taxes and subsidies.

The body of the Nokia N8 will be crafted from a single piece of anodized aluminum, which we cannot help but admit to be in love with. Indeed, Nokia's next big time player is certainly a good-looker. Things get even better as there will be five different color variants, each looking attractive in its own way.

Moving further to the capacitive touchscreen, we see that Nokia's attempting to find a good balance between size and quality. The diagonal will measure 3.5 inches, while the resolution will be 360x640 pixels (16:9). We can expect some pretty decent image quality thanks to the utilized OLED technology.

One of the key selling points of the Nokia N8 is its 12MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash. In addition to being capable of recording 720p HD videos (and editing them with a set of built-in tools), the camera will also feature a large sensor that should deliver very good results. This seems to be one of the first cases when someone is actually turning attention to the sensor, rather than simply touting the high megapixel count.

The Nokia N8 seeks to be impressive on the software front as well. It will be the first smartphone with the new Symbian^3 operating system, which brings forth some already popular features like multitouch pinch-to-zoom and multiple homescreen pages for more widgets and shortcuts. There will also be homescreen integration with Facebook and Twitter, along with calendar integration. Not only that, but Nokia promises greater system performance and responsiveness, as well as better memory management that should enable the user to enjoy multiple apps simultaneously in a more seamless manner.

All of this sounds truly exciting and we hope that the phone will live up to the high expectations the manufacturer has created in us.

UPDATE: Nokia Conversations has posted the first samples taken with the N8's 12MP camera. Check them out here!
